Our World Series Chowdah

Happy World Series!!! We made our game day dinner LIVE! Since my husband is from Boston & his family is visiting we had to have New England Clam Chowder. No matter who you’re pulling for you can’t go wrong with my father in law’s classic chowdah.

Bear’s New England Clam Chowder

4slices bacon

2 tablespoons butter

2 celery stalks

1 large onion

1 clove garlic

1/2 lb Yukon gold potatoes

2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch

1 1/2 cup clam juice

1 1/2 cups heavy cream

1 1/2 lbs clams ( fresh or canned)

Salt & Fresh ground Pepper

Chop the bacon into small pieces. Heat a dutch oven over medium-high heat, add the butter, once it’s melted, add the bacon. Cook until the bacon is crispy. Remove bacon from pot. Chop the celery, onion and garlic and add to bacon grease. Cook until the vegetables are soft, about 2 minutes. Add flour. Stir constantly until flour smells like pie crust – about 2 minutes. Chop potatoes into bite size pieces. Add potatoes & clam juice. Bring to a simmer and cook until potatoes are very tender, 10 to 15 minutes.Add the clams and cream. Cook for about 5 minutes. Add salt & pepper to taste. Garnish with bacon & chives.
